Sur Tagine is basically a part of Sur Argentine, but both restaurants have separate entrances and dining rooms (you can order from either menu, if you wish). The décor is rustic and intimate as there are only 5 tables to accommodate approx. 21 persons. There is an outside dining area by a fountain for warm nights. The service is par excellence and the wine menu is varied and well priced. The house red is a superb Ribera del Duero Tempranillo wine. The menu is small but has all the dishes typically associated with Moroccan cuisine and as such you know that all dishes are freshly made. Raw celery & carrots are served with a spicy cheese dip and fresh, warm bread rolls to start. Of the four starters, we chose the Spinach & Pine Nut Filled Crispy Filo parcels and the Pastela. The filo parcels were indeed crispy and the spinach filling was gently spicy and moist. The pastela is the only dish, which is prepared in advance to cut down the waiting time and it is wonderful. Succulent chicken pieces mixed with almonds, cinnamon and egg, are enveloped in crispy, filo pastry, dusted with icing sugar. The Tagine de Cordero (lamb tagine) was delightful. The meat was so tender, you didn't need a knife and the sauce was flavoured with crunchy almonds and soft prunes. We had the Pollo con Limon Confitado y Olivas and as the English translation on the menu says, the slow cooked chicken was so tender it fell off the bone. The lemon marmalade sauce was tangy and sweet. Of course we had a CousCous and opted for the vegetable one. Courgettes, sweet potato, carrots, onions, raisins and potatoes were scattered in the couscous, sprinkled with cinnamon and accompanied by a vegetable broth to add moisture. Tip: If you like it spicier, ask for some Harissa paste. The portions were just right and so we had no problem ordering a dessert. The Chefchuan Lemon Pie is semi-freddo, very lemony and yummy. The Sweetmeats served with the Moroccan Tea consist of pastries dipped in honey and covered with sesame seeds with a filling of almond paste and flavoured with rosewater. Moroccan tea is a green tea with an infusion of fresh mint leaves and sugar. If you don"™t like it too sweet, just let Juan, the proprietor, know and he will serve it accordingly. Sur Tagine is one of those wonderful restaurants where you are sure to become a regular once you've been there because it has the perfect combination of delicious, yet light food, cosy ambience and excellent service.
