Summertime in La Chozita !!!!!!
La Chozita is situated in San Pedro on a quiet side road near the beachfront. It may be hidden away but it certainly deserves to be in the limelight as one of the Coasts secret gourmet treats.
Bianca and Arthur bought this beautiful house, which had been a Spanish restaurant for the past 30 years, two years ago and have turned it into a veritable gourmet temple. Bianca is in charge of the guests’ welfare and along with their waitress Caroline, provides excellent service and makes you feel truly welcome. Arthur is the chef and by using a wonderful blend of local Spanish produce combined with experimental elements of North European and Oriental cuisine has created unusual and extremely tasty dishes. In summer the terrace is open and you can dine al fresco. The restaurant itself is split-level with a few small niches and one large separate room for larger parties. The atmosphere is warm and inviting due to the combination of colours and candles everywhere. Upon the question whether everything is homemade, Bianca replied with a ‘yes’. This was immediately put to test when the complimentary bread arrived and sure enough, small hot brown rolls, ciabatta rolls and olive bread rolls were placed before us with an excellent black olive & dried tomato tapenade. All definitely home made. Three sumptuous ameuse geulles; scallop on creamed potato with a caviar topping, shrimp on crème fraiche in a cracker and pâté de foie gras on warm goats cheese with roasted bread with a cinnamon and raisin chutney were set before us and almost too beautifully presented to eat. Talk about tasty? Edible explosions are the only way to describe the taste!
Whether you decide to order the Quail Breast on Beetroot and Rocket salad, the Warm Goats Cheese on Black Pudding (yes!), Filet of Lamb on Sauerkraut or the delectable Grilled Prawns and Squid on a Curry Sauce, you can be assured that any one of these entrées is a perfect start to your menu. Moving on to the main course those of you who love to blend meats with fruit would be well advised to order the Breast of Duck on Apple Puree with Cassis Sauce and if you want to try a true Spanish dish done Arthur’s way, then order the Cod on White Broads Beans in a Spicy Tomato Sauce. After all these delights you must be sure to leave enough room for one of the very special home made desserts. The Crème Brulée or the Orange Cheese Cake will definitely leave you wanting more. You could ask Bianca if Arthur would make up a plate with various desserts so you get a chance to have a taste of everything.
The house wines are from Rueda (white & rosé) or Rioja (red) and at the end of the evening you will be served a digestif on the house. Ours was warm Amaretto with whipped cream, bliss!
