The weather in Mijas
Things to see in Mijas "¢ Carromato de Max "¢ Ethographic museum "¢ Bullfight museum "¢ Wine museum "¢ Free Flamenco shows "¢ Donkey and Horse rides
Suggestions: Mijas has an abundance of events happening during the year. It is worth checking them out. You can look them up on our event calende. The museum of wine is not only a museum, but also offers wine and sherry tasting. It has a Bodega ambience, so whatever you do do not leave without having been there.
Mijas is probably one of the most beautiful white villages in Andalusia. Although it is touristy, it is very nicely laid out and the town hall makes a big effort to offer different activities to its visitors. It has free Flamenco show every Wednesday at noon and in summer also on Thursdays at 9.30pm, performed on the main square. Mijas also offers free guided walks all year around Mijas countryside on Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10 AM starting at the tourist office (see in Extras). The town also has a new theatre (since November 2006) where different exhibitions and performances take place (see our event calender). In summer you should definitely find out what is taking place at the auditorium (this is a kind of open-air amphitheatre) and this is already worthwhile visiting due to the magnificent views down to the coast and over to the sea . The "botanical garden" is actually a small park with a walkway along the cliffs; it has about 52 different trees and plants, indicated through painted tiles. The town organizes different cultural events that take place here. Mijas has an abundance of typical tourist shops selling hand painted ceramics, mugs etc. It is also a great place to find all kinds of leather goods like handbags, coats, shoes and wallets, as well as the famous Spanish Lladró porcelain and gold jewellery.
Mijas is definitely a place to visit with your kids as they offer donkey rides and horse carriage rides and also have a small playground. Parking is difficult if not impossible, so we recommend you drive into the public park house right away and do not waste precious time looking for free parking. You will see signs turning left once you enter Mijas. Park there and take the elevator up which brings you to the main square.
