Ernesto wanted to have a restaurant combining traditional Spanish dishes and tapas with fresh local ingredients and Innovative ideas. His goal has certainly been achieved. The chef who uses seasonal produce, top quality oils, fresh herbs and spices making amazing light healthy and totally delicious gourmet food. The restaurant is modern in design and divided into two areas; the Lounge Bar area and the dining area, depending on whether you wish to snack or dine or just sip a glass of excellent wine or drink a coffee. Breakfast can be Spanish, English, Continental, Healthy or Reviving. Executive Lunch Menus, from Mondays to Fridays, comes with a choice of 1 - 3 courses. Beautifully presented tapas are served all day as well as sandwiches, burgers, wraps and homemade desserts. The amuse geulles the chef offered us was a chunky tapenade of black olives accompanied by homemade olive and sunflower seed bread rolls. Foie with Crunchy Sesame was served on wafer thin toast and the traditional Pulpo a la Gallega was served on a bed of creamy potato foam. We were then treated to tuna coated in poppy seeds with caramelized onions and mange touts as well as a delicious coulis of raw tuna, cucumber, sesame and rice wine vinegar. The former appears only on the Tasting Menu, which is well priced and well portioned. If you, like us, love fish the Lomo de Lubina (sea bass) al Romesco will be one of the choices you should make. Fresh, light and flaky fish accompanied with cherry tomatoes - it is truly superb. But maybe your partner should order the Lenguado (sole) Meunière, soft and fresh with the aromas of lemon and basil, definitely worth sharing! Before going into the 4th course we were served marinated strawberries in yoghurt foam; a wonderful way to prepare the palate for the Magret de Pato which wafted the pungent smells of cinnamon, garam masala and other exotic spices or the perfectly prepared beef filet served with shallots, mushrooms and potatoes. This excellent meal was rounded off with homemade crepes Suzette and delicious vanilla ice cream. Ophira offers an extensive wine card and all can be ordered by the glass as well as by the bottle. We found this 5-course meal accompanied by a variety of red, white and rosé wines to be a true culinary experience leaving us pleasantly satisfied with a big smile on our faces. We'll be back and maybe we'll manage the 7-course menu?? Andalujo 2009
