Step into Au Petit Paris and you will find yourself in the capital of France itself. The immediate impression is one of warmth and cosiness, which is the work of the owner Francoise. Tiffany lamps, silver candelabra, real flowers, large wine glasses, white linen tablecloths and napkins create a beautiful ambience, which is accentuated by black/white photos of various Paris landmarks as well as colourful paintings by French artists. The chairs are upholstered in red velvet, which is also the material, the curtains are made of and the soft background music consists only of well-known songs about Paris and France. Outdoor seating is available in summer on a quiet square. The wine menu is extensive and has a large variety of French and Spanish wines. A special feature being the vintage year, which is entered in pencil and continuously updated. Wine can be ordered by the glass, bottle or 1½ bottle and if you are a lover of Rosé wines, then order the Côtes de Provence - unbelievable. Francoise's husband Alain is in charge of the spotless kitchen and a magician in his own right. Whatever he puts together comes out as something very special indeed. Whilst looking through the menu you will be served fresh, homemade bread (without cover charge) and an Amuse Bouche. We started with a delicious Poultry Liver appetizer served on Sherry vinegar deglazed Baby Salad Leaves topped with pine nuts and crispy bacon and Stuffed Mussels with Garlic Butter. Perfect for dunking the bread. As a main course we had Duck Breast in Birgarde Sauce. Succulent meat with a hint of orange and spices. This comes with Au petit Paris famous extremely tasty creamy mashed potatoes and a buttery timbale of mixed vegetables. Whole Lobster Latin Style with Madagascar Flavours is not only a mouth wateringly good dish but is served like a painting. Served on a timbale of courgettes and spinach with fried scallops topped by a slice of crispy potato this is a dish to be savoured. Our desserts consisted of a wonderful tangy apple tartin with vanilla ice cream and flambéed with Calvados, heavenly, as well as a platter of French cheeses. These were many and these came in small portions - perfect. Au Petit Paris also serves the dishes you associate with French cuisine such as Frogs Legs, Snails and Foie Gras and Francoise is an excellent, attentative and charming host making your splendid meal unforgettable.
