Situated on a slip road adjacent to the N340 entering San Pedro, this seemingly small restaurant is decorated in vibrant, exciting colours and you will probably spend the evening looking around, taking in all the décor details, as well as having an excellent meal.
Miccio welcomes you at the door and leads you into the restaurant which consists of a ground floor and a mezzanine floor with nooks and crannies under blue eaves. Soft classical music in the background, candlelight, a large fireplace, and alcoves, filled with bric-a-brac, framed and indirectly lit, all make up the unique ambience of El Relicario. Miccios mother, Pilar is the artist behind all the details and is constantly changing the restaurants design. A large, enclosed terrace is opened in the summer months and here, once again the ambience is underlined by many candles and water flowing along a trough which was used for the animals who drank there after carrying their heavy load to El Relicario which used to be a silo.
Complimentary, warm assorted breads, home-made pâté, and sweet chutney are served whilst you take a look at the menu. The Crispy Shrimp Pancakes are different than elsewhere due to the sugar cane honey on the side. Raincoat Prawns, filo wrapped prawns with a basil mayonnaise, and Foie “Mi-Cuit” are all delicious starters, beautifully presented on an étagère. The main courses such as Oriental Lamb with couscous or the Desalted Boiled Cod ‘El Relicario Style’, bedded on a home made Tomato Sauce are served on warm plates which are set on the ‘placemats’ – old 33 “ LP’s!
Leave room for the home made desserts because they are delicious. My favourite was the Filo Pastry with ‘dulce de leche’ - A toffee like cream made from condensed milk. El Relicario also makes its own rosemary liquor and you can buy a bottle to take home. Ladies make sure you go and powder your nose; you’ll be in for a very pleasant surprise.
Accentuating the classical ambience of El Relicario you will be able to enjoy concerts from October through June on a Monday or Tuesday. Entrance is15 Euros and drinks and small snacks can be ordered. Every Thursday, a Spanish guitarist plays background music; one of the many things that make El Relicario a special place to go to.
