We have been living on the coast for a long time and are more than happy to live where others take holidays, but sometimes we need to feel as if we're on holiday too. For this purpose, we head for Sonora Beach. Javier and Laura have created a haven, situated at the end of Arroyo la Cañas, also known as Hacienda Beach. Surrounded by bamboo and sand, you feel as if you're in Bali or Thailand. Straw roofs, pagoda shaped sunshades, lanterns, cushions and tablecloths in green, orange, yellow, pink and lilac create an eclectic atmosphere. Two lounge areas with large, wide Bali beds and seats, bamboo blinds with clinking, silver wind charms, potted plants and a mass of coloured cushions invite you to take a rest from the sun. For even more relaxation, have a massage in the shaded gazebo on the beach. There is a beautiful shop within the chiringuito where you can browse and buy one of the many colourful necklaces, bangles, scarves, beach bags, belts or sandals. There is a changing room so you can try on one of the many dresses, pants, t-shirts or blouses.  Even a visit to the ladies is like taking a step into an oriental world.
On weekends you can listen and dance to a live band or one of the excellent house DJ's. Sunday is Mojito day and there is a special area set up with bartenders exclusively mixing this wonderful cocktail. The Sonora team are all extremely friendly and Kike, the chef, is a personality unto his own. He enjoys coming out and serving the guests, time permitting and he'll constantly appear with some little, delectable creation he wants you to enjoy.
Apart from the set menu, there are always specialities on offer. We had Mussel in Green Sauce and "Menestra"; a kind of ragout with Chinese mushrooms, Mediterranean vegetables, bacon and pâté. As well as a Bacalao, soft, flaky cod cooked to perfection. The Chicken Wrap was on a bed of Salad with a great dressing and the BBQ Pork Ribs were so tender, they fell from the bone and were succulent sweet. They came with homemade spicy chips. We finished off the main courses with chunky grilled Tuna Steak that was served with a balsamic reduction. Of course, we had to finish off with a dessert and chose the Crême Brulée, which was very creamy and had a tasty, crunchy topping. If you like Rosé wine, then try the Crazy rosé and the red Bracamonte is also highly recommendable.
Sonora Beach is synonymous with complete "getting-away-from-it-all" or as Sonora's Motto "Enviromentally Funky"
