Whale watching is a tourist, as well as educational activity. It consists of sailing in the Straits of Gibraltar, looking for and identifying the different types of whales and dolphins that live or migrate in this area. Three different types of dolphins inhabit the recently established Natural Park of the Straits of Gibraltar: common, stripped and bottlenose, and they share the habitat with pilot whales. Furthermore, killer, sperm and fin whales migrate through the Straits from the Atlantic Ocean to the Mediterranean and vice versa.
The beauty of whale watching in the southernmost point of Europe cannot be described: the animals surround our boats, nosing around and playing at the bow.

Whale Watch España, established in 1996, is a non-profit making association. Its aim is the protection of cetaceans, by getting to know more about them while observing them in their natural habitat.

The boats depart from three different harbours: Tarifa, Algeciras and La Linea. The meteorological conditions will decide where to depart from and the boat required. The captains are professionals, and the trips are guided by experts in the area, who will help the passengers to find the animals and interpret their behaviour.

Since the beginning of these studies, our biologists have been collecting data on the animals which serve as a base, both for population studies and for regulations which guarantee the sustainability of the activity, and the conservation of the area and its inhabitants.

As the pioneer of the activity, Whale Watch España guarantees its passengers an UNFORGETABLE EXPERIENCE!

THE STRAITS OF GIBRALTAR AND ALGECIRAS BAY
Tarifa, Algeciras and La Linea ports enable us to provide daily excursions under different metreological conditions. East and West winds favour the choice of one port or another. Our aim is that our passengers enjoy the best conditions for sailing, whatever day they choose to get to know this Natural Park.

THE BOATS
We have various types of boats. Depending on the meteorological conditions, the departure port and the number of passengers, we choose the size of the boat for each trip.
We prepare the "˜boat to fit"™, as we can carry from 10 passengers in a small boat, to 200 in a big one. All of them are authorized by the Maritime Administrations to carry out whale watching activities and are equipped with all navigation instruments and security equipment, as required by the General Director of the Merchant Service.

THE MATERIAL
All passengers should wear protective, waterproof clothes and sport shoes. Don´t forget to bring your camera and video camera!

MEETING POINT
Passengers assemble one hour before departure at the association centre, Avenida de la Constitución Nº6 (main road to the harbour), to register the passengers and hand over our educational information.

INSURANCE
All passangers and boats are fully insured.
